New 2024-2025 STP support projects applications are now open

Apply for Commonwealth funding for Specialist Training Program (STP) support projects through the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP). Final review and approval is made by the Department of Health & Aged Care (DoHAC).

The RACP is accepting new applications for upcoming support projects that provide support for, and clearly benefit, existing STP trainees in settings outside traditional metropolitan teaching hospitals, including regional, rural, remote and private facilities.

Projects that provide cultural safety training in Indigenous healthcare settings will also be considered, and these can be whole of college activities aimed at cultural and/or behavioural change.

Applications must be received on or before Monday, 11 March 2024.

RACP SUBMISSION to TGA Consultation: Medicine Shortages in Australia, challenges and opportunities

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has opened an important consultation into medication shortages, challenges and opportunities for reform. Read consultation background and direct link to survey here

The RACP intends on making a submission to the consultation subject to sufficient member feedback. Your related knowledge and advice is therefore requested.

The attached discussion paper outlines the consultation focus questions in full. We recommend that you focus your responses on questions 14-25, being most targeted to specialist practice, however broader responses are welcome.

  • Bring their medical expertise to an acute secondary care hospital and contribute to critical care to the patients in the Nelson region.

  • Have specialist accreditation in cardiology including device insertion, advanced non-invasive imaging (CT or Cardiac MRI), or percutaneous coronary intervention would be preferred.
  • Hold Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Physicians (FANZCP), or equivalent.

Research Review Speaker Series NZ – Optimising management of heart failure in the community

The Research Review Speaker Series on Optimising management of heart failure in the community was held at the GP CME South conference in Christchurch. In this workshop session, the speakers presented case studies as the basis for discussions on management strategies to improve
outcomes for patients in the community with heart failure.

The Speakers included:

Suzanne Jackson. A Nurse Practitioner (Primary Care/CNS Cardiorespiratory) in South Canterbury and a member of CSANZ and NPNZ.

Johanna Lim who is an ANZCAP-accredited Consultant Cardiology Pharmacist and Pharmacist Prescriber. She is also an Executive member
of the CSANZ Allied Health, Scientific & Technical Council.

Mayanna Lund, a Cardiologist and Heart Failure Specialist at Counties Manukau. She is also the Clinical Lead of the Northern Region New
Zealand Cardiac Network and of course, our CSANZ President-Elect.

Wellington Regional Hospital is looking for an experienced Cardiologist to treat patients across our region.

This is a fixed term position to cover a series of sabbaticals within the Cardiology Department. A background of strong general cardiology is required. Applications are encouraged from those with an interest a broad range of skills due to the requirements of cross-covering cardiologists with variable specialities. Therefore experience in device therapy, imaging, adult congenital heart disease, interventional procedures or heart failure or combinations there of are all welcome.

The position holder will provide consultant services and cooperative leadership for the cardiac medical team to facilitate provision of appropriate high quality service to the patients that come under their care and commits to maintaining a collaborative and collegial professional development.

They will provide diagnostic and treatment services for patients in the central region. Their skill set is well-established experience in general cardiology as well as a subspecialisation). They will work cooperatively with other medical, nursing and technical staff

The position holder will be expected to perform and will be accountable for the key performance indicators as listed. The detail of the tasks will be contained in the protocols and guidelines pertaining to the specific area of work. The consultant cardiologists are involved in the development of these protocols and guidelines.

  • Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine (Cardiology) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Demonstrate a high degree of clinical skill, particularly in general cardiology
  • Participate in an on-call roster
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training

Babyscreen+ research study: Genomic Newborn Screening

Share your knowledge and expertise through 30-minute interviews to help shape the future of genomic newborn screening in Victoria.

The BabyScreen+ study is investigating the best way to deliver a genomic newborn screening program to all babies in Victoria.

We want to understand the acceptability of models of genomic newborn screening amongst health professionals whose clinical practice may be impacted by the results of this screening.

We would like to invite paediatricians, specialists, and general practitioners in Victoria to take part in a 30-minute interview by phone or videoconference.
