Position: Cardiologist

Mersey Heart is a cardiology practice established in Devonport, Tasmania in 2021 by Dr Greg Hasking. This growing region of about 45,000 people had had no local cardiac service for some years. The practice is now ready to welcome another cardiologist to our team.

We are committed to practising with integrity, high technical standards, and respect for patients, carers, and staff. Dr Hasking’s primary clinical interests are in echocardiography and heart failure. The practice is overwhelmingly outpatient based and offers both consultation and non-invasive cardiac testing to the community and the local Mersey Community Hospital.

In addition to his work at Mersey Heart, Dr Hasking has an appointment as Visiting Cardiologist at Launceston General Hospital (LGH). LGH is the major referral hospital for the 250,000 people in northern Tasmania. Cardiac capabilities include angiography and PCI, some structural procedures, devices, and all non-invasive investigations including TOE. Cardiothoracic surgery in Tasmania is undertaken only in Hobart.

The Spirit of Tasmania ferry and major airlines provide direct access to Devonport from Melbourne. Devonport is a bustling town with a good range of retail and service facilities. The natural attractions of central and northwest Tasmania are close by. Launceston is the main commercial centre of Northern Tasmania, and is accessible from Devonport in 60 minutes via the Bass Highway. Both towns have excellent schools and recreational facilities

This position provides an opportunity to start in private consultant practice with an experienced colleague, and long-term potential as the practice continues to develop. Subject to the availability of positions and a successful application, there may be opportunities for professional interaction and acute cardiology through the public system. We encourage and support continuous education.

We offer an attractive remuneration package, and can provide short term accommodation in a new two-bedroom villa.

We welcome expressions of interest from cardiologists eligible for specialist cardiology registration with AHPRA. No sub-speciality interest is excluded. It would be an advantage to have completed a post-FRACP Fellowship in your chosen sub-speciality.
