The Townsville Hospital and Health Service is currently seeking a suitably qualified Staff Specialist to join our Clinical Cardiology and Cardiac Imaging teams at Townsville University Hospital. The position provides high quality clinical and non-clinical services to patients and clients of the health service and includes research and teaching responsibilities. In this role you will lead and manage the provision of medical services in a hospital, community and outreach setting.

Generous remuneration package of up to $476,037 p.a., comprising base salary range of $184,196 – $233,538 p.a. (L18-L27), recreational leave loading (17.5%), employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%), attraction and retention incentive allowance, regional and rural attraction allowance, motor vehicle allowance, professional development allowance, professional development leave (3.6 weeks p.a.), private practice arrangements, communications package, professional indemnity cover and inaccessibility allowance (if applicable). Level of appointment is dependent upon experience and advanced qualifications. Assistance with relocation expenses may also be available for this position.

About the role
The incumbent provides Clinical Cardiology, Echocardiography including Transoesophageal Echocardiography, 3D Echocardiography, Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography, Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI services within the health service. The Cardiac Services Unit is the tertiary cardiac referral unit for North Queensland.  The unit services a population of approximately 600,000 people and is part of the overall Surgical Service Group which provides the full range of adult cardiac surgery and cardiology services (except for transplants).

Mandatory requirements

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Cardiac, CT/Cardiac, MRI).
  • Current registration as a Specialist Cardiologist with Medical Board of Australia.
  • Advanced clinical experience in Cardiology, expertise in echocardiography including transthoracic echo, Transesophageal echo, Stress echocardiography and 3D Echocardiography.
