Interviews with 2023 CSANZ ASM Prize Winners

The Education Committee invited the following prize winners to be interviewed after the 2023 CSANZ ASM to talk about their winning work that was presented, and what the future looks like for this project and their work.

Incoming CSANZ President Elect




Congratulations to Dr Mayanna Lund, President elect of the CSANZ Board, as announced at the AGM on Saturday 5 August 2023. Mayanna will succeed Prof Stephen Nicholls at the next CSANZ AGM in August 2024 in Perth.

Mayanna Lund is the Clinical Head of Cardiology for the Counties Manukau district in Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Clinical Lead for the Northern Cardiac Network, covering 40% of the NZ population. Dr Lund completed cardiology training at Green Lane Hospital in Auckland, and fellowships at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and Brigham and Women’s Hospital Boston before returning to Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, to be part of a rapidly growing department serving a diverse population with excellence.

Dr Lund is an Hon Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland. Her research interests are implementation of evidence based care and quality improvement, particularly in the community management of heart failure. Since 2016 Dr Lund has been on the Governance Group of ANZACS-QI, Aotearoa’s cardiac quality improvement registry. She has served the NZ CSANZ Committee in various roles, including as Chair from 2018-20, and on the board in that role and currently as the Honorary Secretary.

After the announcement, Mayanna said “Since I first attended a local CSANZ meeting as a non-trainee, the Society has been my professional family. Like many families, it has grown in its role, size and diversity. This is an incredibly exciting honour”.

The High Blood Pressure Research Council has recently transitioned to Hypertension Australia. Their mission and vision have expanded, with new Board positions available that have a wider scope and reach than in the previous Council.

They are keen to establish a high level skills-based board and invite CSANZ members to consider nominating for open board positions below:

THAT’S A WRAP | 2023 CSANZ ASM and ANZET23

Thank you to all those who attended the 2023 CSANZ ASM and ANZET Meeting.

There was a fabulous energy across the four days, from the first Symposium to the final What’s Hot Plenary, with a bumper crowd, presenters and exhibitors taking part.

Thank you to Derek Chew, ASM Convenor; Christina Bursill and Anand Ganesan (Chairs, Scientific Program Committee), Sidney Lo, ANZET Convenor and the members of the organising committees for putting together the wonderful programs.

Congratulations to all the Young Investigator Prize Winners awarded at the 2023 CSANZ ASM and ANZET Meeting held in Adelaide at the beginning of August 2023.
